Microsoft’s Office 365 Now In Public Beta

Microsoft has launched the public beta of Microsoft Office 365, its cloud based productivity suite, in India.
This comes even as Microsoft Corporation announced it is investing 90% of its research and development budget in cloud computing this year.
Office 365 combines Office Web Apps, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and Lync Online into a cloud service. It was introduced last year in a limited beta version.
Office 365 is for professionals and small businesses and the company claims they can start using all the services within 15 minutes, for an average of Rs 270 per user, per month, starting at Rs 90 per user, per month for instant messaging and presence applications.
The public beta is at available at Office365.com. For enterprise, Office 365 also includes the option to get Microsoft Office Professional Plus desktop software on a pay-as-you-go basis. For Rs 1080 per user, per month, organizations can get Office Professional Plus along with e-mail, voicemail, enterprise social networking, instant messaging, Web portals, extranets, voice conferencing and videoconferencing, web conferencing, 24×7 phone support, on-premises licenses.
According to the company, globally more than 70% of the organizations that signed up for the limited beta were small businesses with fewer than 25 employees. Over 150,000 organizations have signed up to test it so far. “The early adoption trends show how well Office 365 resonates with small businesses that want full-featured professional technology, delivered in a way that makes sense for their company by offering them streamlined communication with simplified IT management,” said Sanjay Manchanda, Director, Microsoft Business Division.

Microsoft Launches Arc Touch Mouse

Microsoft has launched a uniquely designed mouse called Arc Touch in India for computer users.
The design is drastically different from a typical PC mouse, with a width of less than 15 millimeters.
Features of the mouse include a strip for scrolling which will perform a fast scroll when you flick the strip. It also features something called BlueTrack which allows consumers to use it on any surface. The Arc Touch integrates easily into Windows to launch Windows 3D Flip that enables a quick preview of all open windows such as open files, folders, and documents without having to click the taskbar.
“As the computing landscape evolves to offer new ways of interacting, such as touch screens and touch pads, the mouse is also evolving but holds true to its core purpose, in providing comfort and precision to users when navigating the PC. Although the computer mouse has become more accurate over the years, there has been little change in the style of this common computer component. The inspiration for the Arc Touch came from wanting to better understand the refined and modern lifestyle of customers,” said Satish Parreddi, Senior Category Manager, Microsoft Hardware.
The Arc Touch is priced at Rs 3600 and has a three year warranty.
The mouse will be retailed at 100 outlets in 10 major cities in India. Customers can also purchase it on Microsoft’s official shop MicrosoftStore.
Recently, Microsoft Corporation announced it will be investing 90% of its research and development budget in cloud computing this year.

$36M Stolen Credit Card Hacker Pleads Guilty

Maybe next time they'll nab an Internet scam artist named Fisher. For now, the guilty plea by Rogelio Hackett, Jr. to charges related to a nine-year-long computer hacking operation that generated millions in fraudulent credit card charges will have to serve as this week's dose of serendipity.

Hackett, 26, pleaded guilty to fraud and identity theft in a Virginia federal court Thursday, according to reports. The Georgia resident had been trafficking in stolen credit card information since 2002, according to prosecutors.

Authorities discovered more than 675,000 stolen credit card numbers on Hackett's home computers during a 2009 search of his residence. He sold much of the credit card information he gained through his computer hacking exploits to others, according to court documents.

Accounts breached by Hackett have been identified by credit card companies as generating more than $36 million in fraudulent transactions. Hackett began his career in cybercrime by hacking into business computer networks and accessing credit card databases, according to authorities, but was also known to purchase account information from other cybercriminals.

Hackett faces a maximum of 12 years in prison and will be sentenced in July.

REVIEWS / SMARTPHONES / SONY ERICSSON Sony Ericsson Xperia Play - Revolutionizing Mobile Gaming?

Mobile gaming is a big part of the smartphone agenda, or even the lower end segment. The Xperia Play was all set to revolutionize the mobile gaming industry and I was looking forward to it doing so. But I’m sure after the preview; most of you are probably waiting to see if it actually does just that. So after a full week of gaming and testing here’s a more in depth look at the Xperia Play aka the Playstation Phone.

Form Factor
Here’s a quick recap of the design - It’s fitted with a 4.0-inch LED backlit touchscreen with a hi-res mobile display sporting a 480 x 854 pixel resolution and 16 million colors. A Slide out gamepad with game keys just like you’d find on a standard PS controller of the PSP itself with touch sensitive navigation pads instead of joysticks is added on. Left and Right corner keys are also available. Volume keys are placed in between these keys. A 3.5mm handsfree (that somehow only seemed to work with a Sony Ericsson kit) is placed on the right above the micro USB 2.0 port.

A little bulky
A little bulky

Although, Sony Ericsson provides an 8GB microSD card (hot swap under the rear panel)  with the Play, it might have been a good idea (considering the price as well) to throw in scientifically more internal storage. It’s a bit of a heavy device at 175g and at 16mm in depth the Play is also a little bulky. But, till a next gen model is announced that manages to shave off a few millimeters to include a slimmer gamepad, we can’t really expect more.
On the whole though I have to say, weight and plumpness taken into account, the Xperia Play still manages to look pretty good and feel quite functional for gaming and regular use.

Features and Performance
Interface
Gingerbread is the version du jour and Qualcomm’s 1GHz Scorpion processor and Adreno 205 GPU make functioning slick and fluid. I’m not too happy with Sony Ericsson’s customized UI, but I’m sure most will find it quite usable. The menu can be customized and icons can be moved around and sorted out according to – most used, alphabetical etc. or just according to your own whims and fancies. You can also create folders and drag and drop icons into them. It’s designed to be very functional, as well with very handy and well thought off widgets for various purposes. TimeScape allows you to have all your SN (FB and Twitter) along with messages and calls in the one frame or you can opt to use separated widgets for each. It’s a lot less cluttered that way.
Android 2.2 on a Scorpion Processor
Android 2.2 on a Scorpion Processor

I did find the calibration of the virtual QWERTY keypad a bit off though and even after a factory reset, it was still much too sensitive for my liking. I compared it to the Incredible S, Samsung Galaxy Ace and the Motorola MILESTONE and they come out on top, of course. There’s no way to re-calibrate it or reduce sensitivity.

Media
The audio player is capable of dishing out excellent tone quality via a very comfortable handsfree kit and comes complete with EQ presets and Sony Ericsson’s Infinite button that locates YouTube corresponding videos for your tracks. The handset provides deep bass tones with a very balanced layer of higher and mid range frequencies that can be customized to an extent with the presets. Like any other mobile player you can sync playlist or create your own on the device itself. TrackID for recognizing music from external sources worked like a charm for Hindi, English, Trance and even some Arabic songs (yes I do happen to listen to a few now and then). Sony Ericsson’s Play Now is also on board but somehow, even after all this time, didn’t seem to be available for India. If you’ve been able to access it, please let me know.

Well designed game-pad
Well designed game-pad

I’ve managed to get past the whole high end, high priced Android handsets not coming with native video players that support DivX or XviD codecs since I’m sure manufacturers have simply assumed we’d just download free apps for this off the Market. Still for this kind of money it wouldn’t have hurt.

The lack of an FM radio is also an issue, a minor one, but one none the less further making the price tag seriously stand out. Active Noise Cancellation via a secondary microphone helped quite a bit when in crowded locales. So voice clarity was a non issue -both incoming and outgoing.

Important Note for Sony Erricsson Xperia Buyers - Review

I personally use Nokia N97 m, But I am not fully satisfied with it, It may be Because of its symbian OS, or may be of its childish UI graphics. The Icons of these symbian phones look like , they are designed by a 10 year old kid.

Ok I do not talk like to talk much on Nokia and Symbian as I have already explained my opinion in previous Article "My opinion on nokia and android".

Due to this, I thought to change my phone , I am a fan of android , So I thought to buy an Android Powered phone. When I was in search of Android phones, I found Sony Erricsson  xperia mini. After a thorough examine of the phone for 2 days. I find the Phone Addictive enough for Android lovers., Because of its UI (User interface) and of its small shape.

But I when I tried to connect it to my PC to use it as a modem. The game started, I tried all ways which I know to connect it to PC from USB to use it as a modem. But It was not so easy, Then I called Sony care for the help. but the answer I got from him was shocking , The customer care executive told that we cannot connect almost any of xperia phones to internet.

Excluding this the phone also have one more disability , that is, We cannot avail zooming option in xperia x10 mini camera.
So please think before you buy a xperia phone. The phone is very cool. but miss these facilities Which I have mentioned above.

Skype for Android Suffers from Security Issues

Skype for Android Suffers from Security Issues

Almost six months ago, popular Voice over Internet Protocol company Skype unveiled the Skype for Android App. Recently, Android enthusiast blog Android Police discovered a security issue with Skype for Android App that may lead to an open invite for hackers to access user data on the device. According to Android Police, the latest version of Skype for Android stores chats logs and other information on the microSD card un-encrypted.

Until the Android 2.2 Froyo update, all smartphone users had to install their apps on the internal on-board memory of their smartphones. Once the Froyo update was rolled out, users could install and store the apps on the MicroSD card. However, there lies a limitation as developers still get to choose whether the app should be allowed to be installed on the microSD card or not. In case the developer allows the app to be installed and store data on the microSD card, that data is supposed to be strongly encrypted. Else, it's like storing all your passwords and data in a text file on your desktop. It's plain stupidity and an open invite for anyone to steal data from there.

The latest version of Skype for Android lets users install stuff from microSD card and stores all user data such as chat logs and profile information on the card itself. However, the Skype for Android app doesn't apply encryption on that whatever additional information is saved on the external storage. That leaves the personal information of the user exposed to potential hackers.

Skype has confirmed about the issue and is said to be investigating it.

Take a look at the video by Android Police that shows the issue:

LG rumoured to manufacture MeeGo equipped handsets

Nokia had started the MeeGo platform project in collaboration with Intel. However, Nokia hasn’t launched even a single MeeGo device till date, and only has one rumoured handset that they might release. So where is MeeGo going? Well we have got information from Reuters that LG will be using MeeGo for their devices. LG has joined hands with ZTE and China Mobile to make a better future for the unreleased platform. "It's opening opportunities for the others to come in. Discussions are taking place. You'll see things coming out this year, pretty soon," said Valtteri Halla, a member of the technical steering group of MeeGo, told a developer conference on Friday.
The Linux based platform has been showcased in a few tablets but still has not gained much popularity. Hopefully it is going to get some exposure after a few handsets equipped with the platform are launched in the market.

ISRO To Launch Three New Satellites

ISRO announced today that it will launch three satellites on April 20 as reported. These include an advanced remote sensing satellite to study and manage natural resources.

The space agency said, "Preparations for the launch of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C16) carrying Resourcesat-2 satellite are progressing well at Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. In this mission, PSLV-C16 will launch Resourcesat-2, Youthsat and X-Sat satellites. The Launch Authorisation Board scheduled to meet on April 16, 2011 will review the readiness of the launch vehicle, satellites and ground stations and authorise the launch of PSLV-C16/Resourcesat-2 mission."

The PSLV-C16 will carry the Resourcesat-2, which is an advanced remote sensing satellite weighing 1206 kg for the study and management of natural resources and is built by ISRO. The other satellites to be carried aboard include Youthsat, which is a 92 kg nanosatellite joint venture between India and Russia to study stars and the atmosphere, while there is also a 105 kg microsatellite imaging application X-sat, which is built by the Singapore-based Nanyang Technological University.

The PSLV-C16 is hot on the heels of the failed Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) attempt by ISRO on December 25 last year and the world's attention will therefore be on this launch. The countdown for the launch will commence early on April 18, while the launch is scheduled on April 20 at 10:12 am from Sriharikota spaceport.

Airtel Promises to Launch iPhone 4 in India

Finally, after six months of wait, Indian telecom provider Bharti Airtel has promised to bring Apple iPhone 4 officially in the country. Once again, the launch date is ambiguous as the company's press release says it will be introduced in 'coming months'. So yeah, just when it's time for Apple to introduce the iPhone 5 globally, the company plans to introduce iPhone 4 which would be a year old by then. The major concern for Apple enthusiasts and iPhone admirers of India would be the price.

In July last year, we reported that Bharti Airtel COO Sanjay Kapoor shared plans of launching the iPhone 4 in September-October time frame. But it didn't happen and we aren't given the reasons for the delay. Airtel is said to be working closely with Apple for the introduction of iPhone 4 in India. Two major concerns for any person interested in iPhone 4 would be the price and whether the device would be locked with Airtel.

By now, we're sure you all would be aware of the iPhone 4's features like Retina Display, front facing camera for FaceTime, faster processor, capability of 720p HD recording and many more features. With the advent of 3G Services in India, we hope Airtel has better data plans for iPhone 4.

When the iPhone 4 will be officially launched in India, we believe that Apple will cut the price of iPhone 3GS. So the new price of iPhone 4 32GB model could be somewhere around Rs. 41,500 and the 16GB model would price bit lesser. It's too early to predict the pricing but looking at the history of iPhone pricing with cellular operators, expect it to be on the higher side.

Aircel to Launch iPhone 4 in India

Aircel to Launch iPhone 4 in India

Indian Telecom provider Aircel will launch iPhone 4 in India in the coming months according to a press statement sent out by the company. This comes immediately after Airtel announced its plans to introduce iPhone 4 in India. There's hardly any difference between the press statement issued by both telecom providers which shows the controlled state of affairs aimed to be kept by the always tight-lipped Apple.

Aircel's Press Statement -

New Delhi, Monday, April 11, 2011: Aircel will launch iPhone 4 in India in the coming months. iPhone 4 is the most innovative phone in the world, featuring Apple's stunning Retina display, the highest resolution display ever built into a phone and FaceTime, which makes video calling a reality. For more information on iPhone 4 please visit http://www.apple.com/iphone.

Bharti Airtel's Press Statement -

New Delhi, 11th April 2011: Bharti Airtel will launch iPhone 4 in India in the coming months. iPhone 4 is the most innovative phone in the world, featuring Apple's stunning Retina display, the highest resolution display ever built into a phone and FaceTime, which makes video calling a reality. For further information, please visit www.airtel.in. For more information on iPhone 4 please visit http://www.apple.com/iphone.

Neither of the companies have specified the month when iPhone 4 can be expected. If you want to ask us, then we suppose it might be a fortnight before or after the possible announcement of iPhone 5 sometime in June.

Just when the iPhone 4 is officially launched by both Aircel and Airtel, it would be interesting to see the 3G Data Plans offered by both. However, it looks like a long wait.

Fly Mobile to Launch Four Android Phones

UK based cellphone player Fly Mobile, known mainly for its presence in the low-end phone market, is poised to go Android happy with the launch of four new Android phones. The phones will be priced between Rs. 7,000 to 10,000 and will be launched sometime in October. The news was announced by Fly Mobile CEO Prem Kumar, "In third quarter of the current financial year we will be launching four Android phones in the price range of Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000." Kumar also said that all phones will have 5 megapixel cameras and will be based on Android 2.2 (Froyo).

He also promised to launch an app store within the year to complete the Android experience. "Fly Mobile is strengthening its app ecosystem and is in the process of launching its app store, which will be India centric. Consumers will be able to experience our store by the third quarter this year," he promised while speaking to the media. The new Android phones will see the company changing its focus to a richer multimedia experience with a focus on video streaming and music playback. Fly Mobile also plans to increase service centres from the 384 to 450 in a span of two months.

Fujitsu Tablet to Dual Boot Windows 7, Symbian

Fujitsu has already started working on Windows 7 based tablets which are to be unveiled at the COMPUTEX 2011. But that's not the only thing on Fujitsu's mind. The company is said to be working closely with NTT DoCoMo on a custom tablet F-07C that will dual-boot Windows 7 and Symbian operating system. The information looks fake and quite impossible at first instance.

At the Consumer Electronics Show 2011 in January, Microsoft had announced that it will bring ARM architecture support for Windows 7. Hence, it's quite plausible that Fujitsu tablet will run Windows 7 (Starter Edition). What is surprising is the dual-boot option and that too with Symbian OS.

Now we know that Nokia has joined hands with Microsoft for using Windows Phone 7 as its primary smartphone mobile operating system. But Fujitsu going for a dual-booting tablet with Windows 7 and Symbian is quite bizarre.

The upcoming Fujitsu Tablet F-07C has a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. The image below shows it running Windows 7.

Take a look at its specifications:

- Windows 7/Symbian dual OS, one-touch switch
- 125mm (H) 61mm (W) 19.8mm (D)
- 4-inch WSVGA (1024 600) touchscreen
- Intel Atom, 32GB SSD
- USB & HDMI terminal for sale with an optional cradle

Dual-booting Fujitsu tablet does look interesting but it is too early to tell whether it would be released as a commercial product or is merely a prototype. Even if it releases, it would be restricted to South-Asia region only.

How Tech Company Logos Evolved

A company's corporate logo is something that becomes a symbol of the company and the company starts getting identified by that logo. It is this power of identity that makes us instantly recognize a brand by just glimpsing at its logo. Corporate logos of almost every technology company have changed over the course of years and that is what we are going to have a look at today.

Apple
Apple Computer Corporation had its humble beginnings in 1976 when it was established by three individuals - Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and principal investor Ronald Wayne.

apple newton logo

At its inception, Apple had a very complicated logo designed by co-founder Ronald Wayne, with a picture of Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree with a phrase from Wordsworth: "Newton 'A Mind Forever Voyaging Through Strange Seas of Thought Alone." This logo was used during the era of Apple-1 and it made Jobs think that the complex logo may be one of the reasons for the low sales of the Apple-1.

Soon they had to prepare for the display at the first West Coast Faire (a technology trade show) and it was important to have a brand new logo that reflected all that Apple stands for - simplicity and great design. A young art director, Rob Janoff was assigned this task.

Since Apple computers were distinguished from the rest by their ability to display many colors, Rob made this new logo of an apple in colorful horizontal stripes of rainbow colors and with a bite taken out of it on one side. Though it is rumored that this bite taken out of the apple was to signify that this is from the world of "bits and bytes", Janoff has stated that he did so to prevent this apple from appearing like a cherry tomato. The apple design was, obviously, taken from the name of the company. The resulting logo was a lot more attractive and eye-catching and it stayed so until 1998.

Apple launched its new iMac in 1998 and with it, they wanted a new logo to suit the sober-looking lineup of its products. While the apple with a bite taken out of it remained, the rainbow color went and got replaced by a gradient chrome silver color which is currently in use.

Layar 5.0 App for iOS, Android Released

Augmented Reality App developer Layar has released a new version of its app for Apple iOS and Google Android platforms. The new Layar 5.0 app brings a couple of new features with animation capabilities and most importantly the ability to share content over Facebook and Twitter. The Android and iOS devices owners can download the app from here or the respective app stores.

Augmented Reality is a new technology that integrates graphics and computer generated environments into real-world through mobile phones or other imaging interface. Recently, the advent of Augmented Reality on mobile phones has been tapped with several mobile augmented reality applications. Layar is like an augmented reality browser that integrates location-relevant data and shows them on a live imagery being captured using mobile camera.

The Layar app shows chosen location-relevant information in form of 'layers' and they are classified by categories like architecture, restaurant, art, beauty, city tours, education, etc. Layar CEO Raimo Van der Klein said that Layar 5.0 comes the ability for more interactivity within layers with animation capabilities. Layers are no longer limited to static content; icons and 3D models can now come alive with animation, adding a new layer of engagement to augmented reality.

The new Layar 5.0 app brings the capability of sharing the viewed layers, 3D models and achievements with other contacts on Facebook and Twitter. New features and refined interface of Augmented Reality browser app is available only to Android and iOS platforms only at this moment. Symbian platform users (Nokia C7, C6-01, E7, N8 and E97) are promised to get the same set of updated features in next update.

Over 10 Million Scammed On Facebook

Spammers have invited over 10 million Facebook users to fake events in yet another attempt to generate income from online survey scams according to a report by the IT security and data protection firm Sophos. Even as we file this report, the scam is in progress and several thousand unwitting Facebook users are falling prey to it.

One of the event known as "Who blocked you from his friend list?" has already tricked over 165,000 people into signing-up, with an astounding 10.3 million users still deciding whether or not to respond. Scammers embed instructions into the 'More info' section of the event's summary and this convinces Facebook users to unwittingly visit the webpages for online surveys or competitions, which are a source of revenue for the scammers by means of commission. Sometimes, users are asked to provide a mobile phone number, and if the user is naive enough to provide it, he/she will most probably end up getting signed up for an expensive premium rate service.

Senior Technology Consultant at Sophos, Graham Cluley said, "These spammed-out event invitations and links to survey scams are one of the biggest nuisances on Facebook right now, impacting millions of users every day. It would be great if Facebook was being more proactive in shutting down these obviously bogus events, as currently it's far too easy for the scammers to fill their pockets through schemes like this."

In case you are affected by this scam, then you must cancel your reservation for the event. You must also notify your friends that you have shared a bogus link with them and/or invited them to a fake event. In case you have submitted your mobile phone number, you must contact your mobile service provider and inform them to keep any bogus charges from appearing in your mobile account.

The moral of the story is that Facebook users must beware of such suspicious events and think twice before accepting invitations from an unknown source.

Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft Security Essentials is a free antivirus software created by Microsoft that provides protection against viruses, spyware, rootkits, and trojans for Windows XP, Vista, and 7. Microsoft has always recommended that its users use real-time antimalware protection, but the release by the end of this year will mark the company's first free solution. MSE replaces Windows Live OneCare - a subscription antivirus service - and Windows Defender, which only protects users from adware and spyware.

MSE is a small-footprint program ideal for computers that lack processing power or broadband Internet connections, such as netbooks. MSE is available as standalone 32-bit and 64-bit downloads for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. It's very easy to install Security Essentials using it is even easier than one might expect.

Updates and upgrades are automatic, so there's no need to worry about having the latest protection. It's easy to tell if you're protected - when the Security Essentials icon is green, your status is good. It's as simple as that.

Microsoft announced this product on November 18, 2008. It marked a change in Microsoft's consumer antivirus marketing strategy. Instead of offering a subscription antivirus with a host of other tools - parental controls, photo backup, and a firewall, Morro would be free for all genuine installations of Windows and simply offer protection against malware. Microsoft Forefront will be offered alongside Morro, with central management tools not present in Morro.

While OneCare offered a Managed Firewall, PC Performance Tuning, Data Backup and Restore, Multi-PC Management, and Printer Sharing, MSE is really closer to Forefront Client Security, Microsoft's antivirus product for the enterprise.

MSE is a basic security suite designed for consumers but based on the Forefront Client Security desktop agent, solely providing malware detection and removal, but lacking Forefront Client Security's centralized management features. It includes the same antimalware engine (dubbed "Microsoft Malware Protection Engine", or MSMPENG for short), and virus definitions that all other Microsoft desktop antimalware products share, including Forefront Client Security, Windows Live OneCare, and Windows Defender (Defender excludes the antivirus definitions[citation needed] which are separate from the antispyware definitions). Before installation, MSE checks for a validated copy of Windows. No registration or personal information is required. The program will disable Windows Defender, as it provides protection against malware, not limited to spyware and adware.

Updates are published 3 times a day to Microsoft Update. Using default settings, archived files are decompressed, and then scanned. File downloads and e-mail attachments are also scanned. Its Dynamic Signature Service attempts to better identify malicious files by checking for updates if an application exhibits suspicious behavior. Before taking action against a suspect file, MSE prompts for user input. If no response is received in 10 minutes, then the suspected malware is handled according to its default action, letting MSE determine what to do with the malware. System Restore points are created before removing found malware.

How The First Man Went Into Space

Space and its wondrous objects have always held a fascination in man's mind since time immemorial. Exploring the moon and planets and visiting others world has always caught the fancy of every human being. But that dream lingered on through the ages and it took the determination and the race between two men to realize that dream. Today, on the 50th anniversary of the launch of first man in space, we will tell you how the story began.

While the story begins as the space race between two World War II allies started, you first need to know about the individuals who deserve credit for the seemingly unattainable feat.

Konstantin Tsiolkovsky

Konstantin Tsiolkovsky was a Russian rocket scientist who is considered one of the founding fathers of rocketry and astronautics. Born deaf and partially blind, he self taught and theorized ways for man to explore space by using multistage rockets fueled by liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen. His mention is important because his works served as an inspiration and his ideas were put into practical use by future generations of rocket scientists around the world and most prominently, the two pioneers of rocket science - Sergei Korolev of the USSR and Wernher von Braun of Nazi Germany. Sergei Korolev and another Soviet rocket scientist Valentin Glushko studied his works as youths. It has been known that von Braun possessed a copy of one of his books and almost every page had annotations by von Braun.

Sergei Korolev

Sergei Korolev was one of the top most Soviet rocket scientists and pioneer of his time. He and his group of fellow engineers had already launched the Soviet Union's first liquid propelled rocket as early as 1933. He had a dream of man exploring space in general and Mars in particular. Just as his career was taking off, he was incarcerated in the gulag on false charges during the Great Purges of the late 1930s, he was sentenced to 10 years hard labor imprisonment and it seemed that his dream of space exploration would never be fulfilled. But by 1942, the Soviet Union needed someone capable of leading the fledgling space programme and Korolev was the only person deemed capable of that responsibility. Accordingly, he was released and made the Chief Designer and worked with Valentin Glushko who served as rocket engine designer.

Wernher von Braun

Wernher von Braun was a leading German rocket scientist under the Nazi regime. He also shared Korolev's dream of manned space exploration and was a rocket scientist par excellence. His talent for rocketry was soon recognized by the Nazi leadership and he was recruited to develop rockets to be launched to enemy territory. Thinking that he will eventually be able to convince the leadership to let him design rockets for manned space exploration, he did not resist the offer. He was the mastermind behind the development of the dreaded V-2 rocket, poised to snatch victory for Nazi Germany. The V-2 could reach over four times the speed of sound and could go past the stratosphere, taking just six minutes to travel the 200 miles to London from Peenemunde on the Baltic coast and was unstoppable at that time.
