Nokia X7 Launched with 8 Megapixel Camera

Nokia, at a UK-based event, formally launched the much anticipated X7 smartphone. The new Nokia X7-00 features a large 4-inch AMOLED display made with Corning Gorilla Glass technology. Apparently, it looks like a cross between the N8 and E7. Yesterday we spotted a video of Nokia X7 being demoed for Three, British Mobile Operator. The X7-00 will remain Three exclusive in UK. Nokia will offer X7-00 in Dark Steel and Silver Steel colors.

The New Nokia X7 has a 4-inch AMOLED display that supports 16:9 nHD 640x360 pixel resolution. Under the hood it houses a 680MHz ARM11 processor which seems to be the same one used in the N8 and E7. Weighing 146 grams, the new X7 is just 11.9 mm thick. It comes with 8GB memory card included and has expansion slot that can carry up to 32GB microSD.

With Nokia X7, the company also introduced the next version of Symbian updated dubbed as Symbian Anna, which was previously referred as PR2. Nokia will release Symbian Anna for N8, C7, C6-01 and E7 in the coming months. The new Symbian Anna update brings fresh set of icons with rounded corners, portrait QWERTY input, better browser, better Ovi Maps, and other enhancements.

The major focus of the Nokia X7-00 is its entertainment and gaming aspect. This new X7-00 supports the usual audio formats with up to 320 kbps Bit rate and also has Stereo FM radio. Apart from that the on-board graphics supports OpenGL 2.0 that enables 3D graphics and thus games are enjoyable with the help of accelerometer.

Nokia E7 Review

Nokia's Communicator series has come a long way since its inception back in 1996. The Nokia N9000 Communicator was the first of the lot and incidentally also happened to be the very first smartphone. What made it "smart" was its ability to be used as a PDA, a big deal back then. Since then, the Communicators became more powerful and also smaller along the way. The last time Nokia used the Communicator brand name was with the 9500. The E90 that came after that did not have the Communicator name associated with it but it was unmistakably a Communicator.

Times were changing though and people no longer needed such large devices. They wanted something more compact but at the same time with a full QWERTY keyboard to type their messages on and a large screen for reading their mails and browsing the Internet. This was exactly the kind of usage the Communicators were built for but with their old design, they would find only a few takers in today's day and age. So, to meet the demands of these new age business users, Nokia completely redesigned the Communicator and thus the E7 was born.

Just like its predecessor, the E7 may not have the Communicator name attached to it, but that doesn't prevent it from being just like one. It has the same large display, a large QWERTY keypad and all the features that a business user would appreciate. If only N9000 would have been around, he would have been proud of this little fella (little in comparison to the N9000. The E7 is not small by any means). Today, we have the opportunity to review this latest and greatest business phone from Nokia. Let us find out how well it performs.

HTC Desire Z Review

The first Android phone had a QWERTY keypad and was manufactured by HTC. After that there haven t been a lot of droids with QWERTY keypads and HTC in particular never visited that territory. Not until now, that is. The successor to the original droid, the T-Mobile G1 was followed by the G2, which is several leagues ahead of its predecessor.  Of course, that phone is restricted to T-Mobile so HTC came up with the Desire Z - the phone that we are reviewing today - where they loaded it with their own Sense UI and are selling it unlocked in other markets. The phone has been selling in the Indian market for some time now but it took HTC a while to send us a review sample. Nevertheless, we have the phone with us now and we have been spending some quality time with it. So read on if you want the full review.

Design and Build

The Desire Z has a slightly subdued design compared to the Desire. You can tell it is designed to suit a businessman more than, say, a college goer. Nevertheless, it is still a handsome phone. The silver brushed aluminum finish goes well with the grey rubberized plastic. Metal is used sparingly on the Desire Z, possibly to keep the weight less; the sliding mechanism already adds a lot to that.

On the front you have the large earpiece on the top with the ambient light sensor and the proximity sense hidden towards its left. Below is the 3.7-inch display covered with a Gorilla Glass. Below the display is a thin row of touch sensitive keys along with an optical trackpad. We preferred the physical controls below the Desire's display; it is much more difficult to press unintentionally. The trackpad has a ring that glows when you have a notification.

On the left side are the volume control buttons and the micro USB port. On the right is the camera shutter button, and the button for releasing the battery cover.

On the top is the 3.5mm headphone jack and a power button.
